Sparkly Snowflake

This week I’m working on a Sally the Snowflake (Pattern by Freshstitches):

It’s a slightly challenging pattern (because of the shaping, you have to pay attention to what you are doing) but it is one of my favorite holiday patterns to make.

I love the seaming especially, because it’s when everything (literally) starts to come together. It starts off as two twisty-tangly piles of snowflake spaghetti, but as the edges are sewn up, the final geometric shapes start to emerge.

Compare the difference between the top half of the snowflake and bottom. It’s fun to watch the transformation!

For this snowflake, I decided to do something a little different and use a sparkly yarn (Specifically, I Love This Yarn! Metallic) which has a thin metallic strand plied together with the rest of the yarn. When I think of snow, I think of how it sparkles and glimmers when the sunlight hits it and I wanted to try to mimic that in amigurumi form.

I don’t have pictures of them yet, but I’m also working on some amigurumi ornaments plus a special holiday Mini Monster in the Toy Box. Is anyone else in a holiday mood yet?
